Matt Trevithick is a Managing Partner at Leitmotif, a decarbonization venture capital firm he co-founded in 2023. He is also an Operating Partner at DCVC, a leading deep tech venture capital firm, for whom he serves on the board of Fervo (enhanced geothermal energy). Previously, Matt was the COO of Google Quantum AI, where his team was the first to demon­strate that a quantum computer could exceed the capa­bil­i­ties of the world’s most powerful classical super­com­puter at a specific task. He also led a seminal re-eval­u­a­tion of low-energy nuclear reactions that included sponsored research at MIT and other univer­si­ties, and facilitated Alphabet’s investment in Common­wealth Fusion Systems (fusion energy). Prior to joining Google, Matt was a Partner at Venrock, focused on clean energy tech­nolo­gies. His investments included Lucid Motors (electric vehicles), Nest (smart home controls), Phononic (advanced ther­mo­electrics), and TAE Tech­nolo­gies (fusion energy). Early in his career, Matt co-founded two Internet software companies that were subsequently acquired, practiced project finance in Asia, and researched superconductivity and other collective quantum effects. Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a master’s degree in management from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
