Koichi joined as the Chief Revenue Officer for the Japanese laser fusion startup, EX-Fusion, in September 2021. EX-Fusion, founded by Dr. Kazuki Matsuo, is an Osaka University spin-out company leveraging 50+ years of research and development in the field of laser fusion technology at the Institute of Laser Engineering, Osaka University.

Koichi’s role as the CRO encompasses many aspects of the business including sales and marketing, new business development, alliance and strategic partnerships, funding and investment opportunities, media relations, and government affairs. At the moment, EX-Fusion is focused on commercializing three of its core competencies, which are laser driver technology, high accuracy beam control, and liquid metal blanket material. Taking advantage of near-term commercialization opportunities in the areas of manufacturing, space exploration, environmental protection, agriculture optimization, semiconductor processing, and advanced medicine, EX-Fusion will find ways to bring to market advanced technologies related to laser fusion to other industries to fund its R&D for commercializing laser fusion by 2035.
